Banning mountaintop removal for coal mining, restoring funding for land acquisitions and improving air quality are among the top priorities of the Tennessee Conservation Voters for this legislative session.
The group, which announced its legislative agenda at the start of the regular legislative session Monday, said other issues that will draw attention include clean water, recycling, banning guns in parks and smart growth.
The top issue listed was to reclaim a dedicated land acquisition fund to protect wetlands and add to parklands. The money comes from a real estate transfer tax, which has for the last two years been diverted into the state's general fund.
